BRAZIL

US trade with Brazil, which was slapped with a 50% tariff in August, fell 7.7% to $7.2 billion. US imports from Brazil declined by double digits – 12.9% — to $2.9 billion, while US exports to the South American country fell 3.8% to $4.3 billion.

In November, the US removed 40% tariffs on Brazilian food products, including beef, coffee, cocoa and fruits, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, Chile suffered an even stronger decline in US trade in September, with two-way commerce plunging 16.7% to $2.6 billion. That was largely due to a whopping 29.2% fall in Chilean exports to the US.

Colombia, which also ranks among the top four US trading partners in Colombia, suffered a 2.2% decline in US trade in September. While its exports to US declined  8.6%, its imports of US goods actually grew 4.3%.

Data for the full nine months of this year show US trade growing 3.9% to $937.1 billion.  That compares with 5.4% growth during the first six months.

US exports to Latin America grew 2% to $413 billion, while imports increased 5.55 to $523.9 billion, according to the Latinvex analysis of US Census Bureau data.
