Latin America’s Top 30 Banks

Brazil’s Itau Unibanco remains region’s largest bank by assets.

Banco BTG Pactual, BCI in Chile and Grupo Aval and Grupo Bolivar in Colombia advanced on the ranking of Latin America’s top 30 banks, while Mexico’s Banorte and Banamex, Banco del Estado de Chile, BCP Peru, Banco de Chile, Brazil’s Banco Safra, Banco de la Nacion Argentina, Scotiabank Chile and Mexico’s Inbursa declined, according to a new overview from S&P Global based on assets as of December 2025.

There were no changes in terms of the top six banks, but BTG Pactual moved from 8th to 7th place and BCI Chile made the top ten after previously ranking in 12th place. Meanwhile, Banorte fell from 7th to 8th place.

Brazil continues to dominate the ranking, accounting for the top five: Itau Unibanco, Banco do Brasil, Banco Bradesco, Caixa Economica Federal and Santander Brazil.

BBVA Mexico ranks in 6th place, making it the top Mexican bank.
