US-based spirits company Bacardi plans to appeal a surprise ruling by federal judge Leonie Brinkema of U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
The judge denied a motion by Bacardi – represented by law firms Kelley Drye and Covington – to proceed with a lawsuit against Cuban state company Cubaexport and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on the use of the Havana Club rum brand.
