Paul Hastings Bullish on Brazil

Firm sees continued growth in both capital markets and M&A activity.

BY JOACHIM BAMRUD

Paul Hastings is seeing a strong year Brazil, helped in large part by the South American country’s booming capital markets as well as its continued M&A expansion.

Key work so far this year includes advising on the $1 billion sustainability-linked notes from Brazilian pulp company Suzano; the $511 million follow-on equity offering from web services firm Locaweb; the $227 million offer from online marketplace and fintech Méliuz and four IPOs from three Brazilian firms and a US-based special-purpose acquisition company focused on Brazil.

Paul Hastings ranks among the top two capital market firms in Latin America and among the top five in corporate/M&A, according to the 2021 Latinvex ranking of the region’s top law firms.

In this interview with Latinvex, Jon Kellner (Chair of the São Paulo office of Paul Hastings and a partner in the firm's Mergers & Acquisitions practice) and Thiago Spercel (a partner in São Paulo who focuses on capital markets) talk about how they view the outlook this year for Brazil capital markets and M&A work for the firm.
