Brazil and Colombia are the countries that are improving most in competitiveness in Latin America, according to a Latinvex analysis of the latest Global Competitiveness Index from the World Economic Forum.
Brazil, Latin America’s largest economy, improved its score by 1.4 points – more than any other country in the region – a welcome development after suffering a decline last year.
Meanwhile, Colombia became the 4th-most competitive country as a result of seeing an improved score, trailing only Brazil’s increase, according to our analysis of the new data from the World Economic Forum, which was released in its Global Competitiveness Report 2019.
Mexico and Peru also improved their scores, while Argentina and Venezuela saw declines.
Chile remains the most competitive country, followed by Mexico and Uruguay, while Venezuela remains the laggard in Latin America.
Overall, Latin America’s competitiveness improved, with its average score reaching 57.6 points an improvement of 0.28 points.
“The region has made important improvements in many areas, yet it still lags behind in terms of institutional quality (the average regional score is 47.1) and innovation capability (34.3), the two lowest regional performances,” the World Economic Forum said in a statement announcing the new report.
