Latin America’s two richest men – Mexican mogul Carlos Slim and Brazilian investor Jorge Lemann – both increased their estimated fortune the past year, according to Forbes.

Slim is $4.5 billion richer than in 2016, but moved down on the 2017 Forbes world's billionaires rankings from number four to number six position.

Meanwhile, Lemann comes in at 22nd place globally, with an estimated fortune of $29.2 billion, an increase from $27.8 billion a year earlier. Lehman’s 3G capital is involved in AB Inbev, Heinz, Burger King, Tim Hortons and more.

AS/COA FOUNDER DAVID ROCKEFELLER PASSES AWAY

Meanwhile, David Rockefeller – dubbed the world’s oldest billionaire – passed away at the age of 101.

In addition to serving as Chairman and CEO of Chase Manhattan Bank, Rockefeller was known for his work in promoting closer Inter-American ties. He founded the Americas Society and Council of the Americas (AS/COA) in 1965 and served as its Chairman from 1981 through 1992 and as Honorary Chairman until his passing.

"David Rockefeller was an inspiration to us all,” Andrés Gluski, the Venezuelan-born CEO of US energy giant AES and Chairman of AS/COA said in a statement. “As Honorary Chairman and founder of Americas Society and the Council of the Americas he worked tirelessly over half a century to promote better relations and understanding among all of the countries of the Americas.”

Rockefeller was an internationalist whose vision for a more interconnected world led him to inspire deepened understanding and integration across borders and cultures, added AS/COA President and CEO Susan Segal.

"We are profoundly saddened by the loss,” she said. “David was a force of nature, and will continue to drive the Americas Society and Council of the Americas in our mission and work.”
