Road Warrior: Larry Pascal, Haynes & Boone

Larry Pascal,
Chair of the Americas Practice Group at Haynes and Boone, on his favorite hotels and restaurants.

Dallas-based Larry Pascal chairs the Americas Practice Group at law firm Haynes and Boone. Latinvex caught up with him as he returned from a trip to Brazil and Argentina.

What are your favorite hotels?

The Four Seasons in Mexico City. I always find a high level of service. I like the patio area -- a great place to meet with clients and colleagues, a nice and beautiful environment.

I also like the Marriott by the airport in San Jose. I like that because it’s partially covered, partially outdoors and the fact that you can have a meal and drink and overlook the green area there. You feel very much in Costa Rica. It’s also very handy when you fly in there and if you don’t have to go into [the center of San Jose]. You can have meetings there.

I also like the Copacabana Palace in Rio because it’s close to downtown, where I typically have to go. And it’s a good venue to meet with clients and contacts. You can have business lunch in a nice, beautiful setting.

What are your favorite restaurants?

In Buenos Aires, the Cabaña Las Lilas for the meat, the service and the ambience.

In Mexico, the La Hacienda de Los Morales for the food, service and ambience.

What do you like most about traveling in Latin America?

One of the things I like is that I have a lot of friendships with people that I do business with and I get to meet them personally as opposed to email and phone.

I also like to have the opportunity to use my Spanish and Portuguese when I am in those markets.

I appreciate the warmth of the local population.  The beauty of travel is that you get to see and compare contrasts with your own culture and learn and appreciate them.

What do you like the least?

The flying experience, airport security, the hassle of flying.
