Mexico-based Grupo Mexico is the most profitable company in Latin America, according to the Latinvex 500.

Even though it ranks third in overall revenues, Grupo Mexico's profits last year were higher than those of Brazil-based Vale (the world's largest iron ore producer) and Chile-based Codelco (the world's largest copper producer).

Apart from these three companies, the top five mining companies in Latin America include US-based Southern Copper Corp (a unit of Grupo Mexico) and Canada-based Barrick Gold, the world's largest gold producer.
