Hard Work & Family
Reaction to the Latinvex ranking of Latin
America’s Top 100 Businesswomen.
BY LATINVEX STAFF
The executives who made
the Latinvex
ranking of Latin America’s Top 100 Businesswomen share their reactions and insights.
“I am truly honored to be part of such a distinguished list of women and
recognized by a prestigious publication that
Latinvex is,” says Carmen González-Sanfeliu, Vice President, Latin America &
Caribbean for Intelsat.
“This
is a tremendous honor,” says Anabel
Perez, CEO, NovoPayment. “I hold Latinvex
in high regard for its insights into the Latin American business landscape.”
HARD WORK, FAMILY
“To be completely honest, the key to success is to work
hard,” Olga Lucía Villegas, the CEO
of Latin America at US-based ad agency Leo Burnett, tells Colombian newspaper
El Tiempo.
Villegas says she has received support from her husband
and children. When her busy travel schedule crashes with school meetings or
doctor’s appointments for the children, her husband has been able to help out.
“When they offered me the regional job in 2008, I sat
down with my husband and children to ask if they would support me or not and
their support was complete,” she says.
Tara Polanco, Costa Rica country manager for Procter & Gamble,
emphasizes that it’s possible to combine a successful career with a personal
life.
“I know of a lot of women who don’t think it’s possible
to be successful in their career as well as in their personal life,” she tells
Costa Rican newspaper La Republica.

María Claudia Lacouture, the president of Colombian
investment agency Proexport, says the success of Colombian women in business is
due to a combination of feminity, discipline, responsibility and a commitment. Lacouture
was singled out by Latinvex in a separate ranking over key business leaders in
Latin America.
She recommends that businesswomen always have a clear set of priorities –
including husband and family – and never feel undervalued being a woman. “It’s time
to get rid of the stereotypes,” she tells El Tiempo.
